#1 How are you providing power to the laptop? Explain your setup. #2 As the log (Read Capacity) mentions, the USB gets disconnected when system tries to read the disk capacity. Can you try re-connecting the external disk, say five times, and see if it fails at this same instant? #3 You could try to use a different cable and see if it isn't a cable problem. #4 You haven't mentioned which laptop you are using. If the USB cable is for USB 3.0, then make sure you plug it in the USB 3.0 port.
