Dear Knights;
This is a small para on linux addressed to my daughter in VIII, wonder if I

  Here goes a small para on Linux;
  (a) Linux is an 'Operating System' (OS) that is non-propreitary and falls
under the Open Source
  category(OSS). The source code is available for development and modification.
This has spawned a
  variety of versions tailormade for various critera. Some of the more known
flavours are Red Hat
  Linux, Debian, Suse, Mandrake, Mint, Ubuntu etc.
  (b) Linux is economical in the use of processor time and computing resources.
It is flexible and
  can be scaled to large, small and embedded applications. The availability of
the source code has
  facilitated this. Thus it has found application in servers, embedded
appliances and devices with
  specialised and limited application. The low cost and flexibility has made it
an ideal choice for
  low cost, mass produced, quality computing devices and older systems.
  (c) It was originally conceptualised by Mr Linus Travos and led to the
development of many
  commercial and specialised software products. The variety of flavours and
distributions have large
  user groups who offer support and advice. The repository of software and
aplications are stored on
  servers and is available freely for download and use.
   Regards
     Appa
