The problem is multi-fold: 1. We do not know what the ELB server does or doesn't do. So, any assumptions or decisions made, will affect the prior testing done. It is still a black-box in the setup, and the vendor is the right person to ask for help. That is why it is called "vendor lock-in". 2. Whatever advice given, whether implemented correctly or not, without informing the vendor, will affect the terms and conditions agreed by the customer. The Service Level Agreements will have these clauses. 3. Also, the customer is paying for a service from the vendor. They have every right to ask them for support, and escalate the issue if required. I am glad that people come forward to help. But, at the same time, we need to ensure that they understand the implications of their actions. Hope this clarifies my reply.
