Yes. Tally ERP 9 can be used via wine. But the application will be
sluggish.
These things are necessary in order to run Tally using wine.
1. Re-define certain shortcut keys in Gnome, such as Alt+F2, as
this key is used for changing the current accounting period in
Tally.
2. There should be a valid active network connection otherwise
Tally will complain ODBC connection failed error.
3. Tally will maintain company records in "drive:\<tally dir>\data
\", this directory should exist and have write permissions. The
drive could be "C:\" or "D:\", so check and fix the wine
settings for it. Otherwise you will get error something like
"Too many companies can't open..." (forgot the exact error I
got)
4. To reduce sluggishness, ask them to use shortcut keys for
selecting a menu item instead of navigating them via arrow
keys.
