Dear Arjun ,
thank you for appreciating the efort that went in to make LiFY.
you have pointed out some very good anomalies .we tried to incorporate all the software which were available to us but since some of the software required GNOME and various other libraries which tend to make the distro quite unstable hence were not installed on the distro as we also had deadline to keep up . we took the next best option i.e to include the softwares atleat and who so ever needs it might install it . by the way next release would look after all these needs . if there is any particular software that you want included in the distro please let me know .
your suggestion regarding college lab and bulletin board is definately good but there is a alight problem here we would then need to assign a dedicated IP to the CD which might hamper with the existing network at many places . please tell me if you or any body have awork around for the same
regards
Abhishek

Dear Sir,

It was an excellent effort. Could get the LiFY up and running from the
CD without any efforts except for the monitor resolution problem. Most
of the older monitors do not support 1024X786 (the Li default), this
needs to be changed to 800X600 as default for Indian distros.

The menus (and programs) that are metioned in the magazine, are either
not there in the CD, or are very, very different.

Want more tools to be used in school :

(1) IDEs and languages/compilers.
(2) Tutorials on MySQL and PostgreSQL.
(3) Apps for assisting teachers in doing their day to day work so that they
    start using Linux/PCs.
(4) Fulfil requirements as per CBSE syllabus for class XI/XII or take up
the issue to make the syllabus open source friendly.

Also :

(1) A step by step guide for college computer lab server and desktops
    setup.
(2) A small intranet and bulletin board/news server for information
    exchange.

I know that all this exist on Li and a devout user will find it some where
on the internet, but the idea is to spoonfeed the schools and colleges in
India. So all this should come with easy setup guides or the apps running
out of the box.

I guess, your next issue should have more of vernacular Li for schools in
non-english areas of our country.
