Hi!
This is in continuation to discussions that I have been involved separately. And something that I had bought up a few years back too.
I was wondering about how many people would consider the idea of a list like [EMAIL PROTECTED], talking only about programming issues and topics.
There are several points about this suggestion:
1. Audience - My informal interactions with people has generally given me the impression that there are a number of people interested in such a forum. Some of us feel that a forum where programming topics are discussed is better off alone when it doesnt have to fight posts like "my sound card isnt working! Help!"
2. Present forums - While there are existing forums like [EMAIL PROTECTED], they can never beat a localised forum like a local programmers guild. While the LI forum does have a larger audience, I for one would prefer to be part of a forum where I can not only exchange ideas with the guys over mail, but can actually get to meet all of them once in a while like ILUGD does (no, Raj, I am still not talking of a PUG ... yet ;) ), exchange books and other stuff.
3. Another mailing list? - We have already tried LAP, which has been put off life support recently. There is no harm in another list if it can ultimately help in the "cause" (world domination) ;)
4. Who is going to admin it?? - Kishore/Raj/Nishikant/___ are over burdended already! If these people would find managing this new list difficult, I volunteer to manage it.
What say you? ;)
