********************** Hindi translation Workshop
****************************************
Dates: August 1-3 , 2004
Venue: SARAI, DELHI

In Oct, 2003 we have a Gnome Hindi translation workshop. More
information at
http://www.indlinux.org/wiki/index.php/HindiTranslationWorkshop . This
workshop was an exhaustive one, where 15 people sat for 3 days, coined
terms for Gnome glossary and reviewed 5000 GUI strings.

This time we would like to do it differently. Instead of working on
printed PO files, it will be done live. The available volunteers for
review workshop can be divided into small groups of 2-4 people.

    * They will have access to two machines, one with english
interface , other with hindi interface.
    * Each group assigned a set of applications (or submenu/groups to
work with).
    * The group will run through the app in english, and then in
Hindi and do following tests
o consistency checking within the app, for same word
o context checks, if the translation is unsuitable for the
current context (eg. menu, button, dialog)
o UI checks, if the translated stuff is going out of bounds
or giving odd shape to its container (eg a dialog box).

The above is not just aimed for a workshop , but more to evolve a set
of review guidelines, which can be followed by anyone interested in
reviewing or having some time to spend on it.

Tentative dates for workshop - July 30 - Aug 1, 2004. Venue: SARAI ,
DELHI Invitees - Hindi translators/linguists, LUG members willing to
volunteer.
