DID YOUR DBA WENT THROUGH THAT URL? Please, please, please take out 10 copies in of that and hand it over to your Dr. DBA!
Yeah, that we have seen.
Why is your Dr. DBA hell bent on installing Oracle 8i on RHEL 3.x when it is NOT supported? Sometime back you or your Dr. DBA tried a similar adventure - installation of Oracle 8i on RH Linux v8.x....What happened to that? Here we have different views, why do you bent easily on what Orcale says or what MS says, If we/you have Internet & persons like you ;) we can make something which is not certified..right ? Do you buy the laptops which are recommeneded by Dell ? Or Do you install only windoZ XP which is recommeneded by dell ?
Why i am saying this is because sometimes/someday conditions are like that you have no choice apart from that and you have to test such combo, whether this is going to work ? I personally don't feel in trying out such things. :)
Some times back we tried with Oracle 8i with Redhat 8.0, found really great working fine...no problem.

There is a reason why these companies (Oracle + RedHat + SuSe..) come out w/ a product certification matrix every year. Unfortunately, you are not interested in reading that.
Before making such statement it would have been better if you had asked me whether its a production or testing or devloper server. :)<> I pray for your company's data.
Well its developer/testing server so don't worry

My DBA says: Our problem is coming during installation, we are not able to create DB using dbassist. Once DB is created only then there is use for looking this file. After running dbassist we need to run netca ?
BTW i don't know how much this email archive validates.
