But you might need one spare partition or temporary hard drive at least. And yes, If this is your situation before you plan to split, it could be difficult. 40gb hard drive with 100 mb -> /boot, Rest of the space -> / If not, simple, you need /home on a simple partition. First copy the data in your "present" /home directory on to a temp place. Create a partition and format it. Make entries for it in the fstab file and mount it. Then copy the /home directory data to the mounted partition. Repeat the steps for what partition you need to split.
