dear all, 1) mid-sep2k5: thoroughly broke my knoppix2debian installed on the hardisk. had to simply reformat the whole partition.
2) sep-end: installed debian sarge from a dvd. big mistake. must install using atleast 2 dvds, not just the first one. 3) till-date: taken 2 weeks to sort out all the nitty-gritty wrinkles and crinkles due to this. great learning experience. been reading loads of documentation, googling, hacking, and once in a while, stopping myself from looking for a sledgehammer to end the misery of my comp. hehehee. 4) took a rather long time to install, troubleshoot and fix alsa. and then fix it again for a second login. yeouch! so, if you ever get alsa-tortured, try this: http://alsa.opensrc.org/FAQ and for other logins, do a # adduser whoever audio and # chmod some shared alsa things with care.... [faq has more] 5) another two days before i got midi working. one reason, had to install freepats. oh! reading up on freepats, gus, soundfonts in-depth has been a great experience too. finally, rewarded myself by listening to this hilarious midi-karaoke file using timidity. the song is called; Another Glitch In The Call. just do a google for AnotherGlitchInTheCall.mid.gz and install and run it. Another Glitch In The Wall is a witty and geeky take on, well you already know what. Taking digs on LISP and function calls is far out.... if you face problems with midi, check out FAQ url provided above, to get a hang of it. obviously, most of you will have your midi and alsa working all ok right out of the box. so kick back and enjoy the lyrics of the above midi song. am gonna pull my guitar out and play & sing it. what fun! :-) niyam _______________________________________________ ilugd mailinglist -- [email protected] http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd Archives at: http://news.gmane.org/gmane.user-groups.linux.delhi http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/
