|First off! learn how to quote.
|What is it that you want to do? IMHO, there is a very big difference
|between Debian and Ubuntu and at the same time None at all. it depends
|on how you look at it.
|Usability wise ubuntu is a thousand miles ahead of debian. Ubuntu is
|more usable on the desktop. similarly, I wont be caught dead with a
|ubuntu install on one of my webservers.
|On the Desktop:
|If you know whats going-on or if you dont care, e.g If you know how does
|that pretty icon automatically comes on the desktop when you attach the
|Digital Camera, or if you dont care, then it makes sense to use ubuntu.
|If you wish to know what all you need to do in-order to get a particular
|version of the camera working, and are inclined to do it every single
|time you need to use the camera, then I guess debian is for you.
|On the server:
|I have never used ubuntu on a server so I wont comment about that. But,
|I have used debian on various kind of server settings, mail, web,
|gateway. It rocks ... the ease of doing stuff and the quality of the
|packages and package management system all shines.
|Coming to your orignal question, what debian to use? Like many other
|questions this one also has one answer. It depends.
|It depends on various things, it depends on your hardware, it depends on
|what exactly are you trying to do/run. If you just want to run a desktop
|then sid (unstable) is the way to go.
|P.
