Usually, what makes a software more stable is what it does not have rather that what it has. I believe in the philosophy of lesser lines == lesser bugs == stable software. you dont have to believe in it. > I know where the ports are. I just wanted to know which packages do people > commonly find missing in Linux that Freebsd has. See above. I use ubuuntu on my laptop, FreeBSD as a desktop (yes you read it right) and Debian on servers. I shuffle between them seemlessy and I make them all do the job they are intended to do, I believe its mostly because, I KNOW WHAT I AM DOING. Yes! It does sound rather shameless of me to say but I am right. I also maintain some 5000 Freebsd servers. Maintaining BSD servers is not fun, Sometimes, you just want to pull your hair out. simple things like a "netstat -a" which years of linux experience has taught me is enough to locate the culprit doesn't give the PID's in FreeBSD. Go Figure. I dont believe the more complex something is the more cool it is. Its called the *Not Complex enough* syndrome.
