Is it really unacceptable? I don't see why that cannot be an option if
Continue is really so great (have not had the time to evaluate it for
myself). I would see this as the easiest option.

If Continue does not work out, I think that the need of the hour is
some static pages, and, at least (a) a registration page, and (b) a page
to accept submissions for talks.

That is fine, too. I would suggest starting to hack up something simple
now, if people are not agreeable to Continue. I am sending you the
location of a CVS server in private mail.
