Did you also copy the dot files/folders (   .gconf .gconfd .gftp .gimp-2.2
.gnome .gnome2 .gnome2_private .gstreamer-0.10 ... etc. ) ?

I am not sure, but I have faced problems with such stale configuration
files, when carrying over with a new installation.

In you case  .gstreamer-x.y *may* be the culprit.
