Although this is a mere guess, but to me it seems, when you installed
XP, instead of installing a separate bootloader on D:, it used the
existing bootloader on C: and created an entry in boot.ini to launch
newly installed XP .
And now, you wiped off your C: and installed Fedora Core 6, so you won't be
able to boot into XP, without re{installing,covering}.

Another thing you can do at the moment is ask someone from LUG for an F9
CD/DVD and install that. After running F9, you'll realize that you did a
good thing by wiping off that.
