if yes, then check the entry for it in /boot/grub/menu.lst to see if
the lines makeactive and savedefault are also present..!
it shud be like this:
title win xp
rootnoverify (hd0,4)
savedefault
makeactive
chainloader +1
also try changing rootnoverfiy to just root..
if still the problem persists, then the method posted by Mehul should work,
after which you'll need to re-install GRUB.
