I can't insert an image of what I am getting in this email, so I include a
link to an image showing what happens when I try use the 'g' key as the
'halant' key as described in the above message.  The d key doesn't seem to
do anything special.

As you can see, the character created is far from that desired.  I think
what we mean by a Juktos character is the same as a conjunct, but I cannot
write Bangla, but am asking these questions on behalf of a colleague who
needs to type it.

The font characters available are not actually rich enough to include the
conjunct/juktos(?) characters, so could that limitation be the problem?
What open source font should I be using?  I have Lohit Bengali installed
(amongst others that support some Bangla).  I am using the Gnome Bangladesh
keyboard.  The version of Gnome is actually 2.22.1.
