Another interesting thing that I have noted of late is that Tata Indicom silently drops pings (to, say google.com) if the ping interval is large, i.e., ping -i 10 google.com will work, but ping -i 15 google.com will just sit there, and never respond. Why would someone do that?
I tried with "ping -n -i 15 google.com" which resolved to 209.85.171.100 and it worked fine over the Tata network. Maybe the IP to which google.com resolved for you wasn't working at that moment. I don't think the interval time can be identified by Tata.
