xrandr will easily rotate my display, but the monitor has to (a) have a 
stand that rotates too and (b) support what I would call a reasonable 
resolution (at least 1200 on the shorter axis).  I don't see either of 
these happening in the near future and hence have given up the search 
for the time being.

Let's face it, even 1280x1024 is better than reading/writing mails on a 
360x240 Crackberry!
