Hi folks!

I discovered this accidentally when the floppy I use
to transport files from cyber cafe to my comp went bad
(i.e. zero sector corrupted). I had the files in a zip
archive. I mounted the floppy and got I/O error
(however the floppy got mounted).

As expected I was unable to copy the files from the
floppy to my hd. In the end I started ark and opened
the zip file in the floppy. ark was able to show the
contents of the archive. So I did a "select all" and
asked it to extract those files. That failed too.

Then I did a pattern select (i.e *.htm*) and asked it
to extract those files. Well that succeeded! Then I
selected *.jpg and extracted it too.

In the end I was able to recover some (not all :-() of
the files using patterns. Moral of the story try ark
if everything fails and yes also backup everything on
two different floppies.

If anyone else has some more daredevil tricks for
floppies let me know as I always keep running into bad
floppies.
