Oh, actually MTNL allows both: use their mail servers as relay if
you're on their dial-up as well as SMTP directly to any host on the
'net that will have you. No connection `hijacking' there: set smart
host to mail.mtnl.net.in (or something like that) if you want,
otherwise have no smart host and mail directly to the recipient's MX.
Authentication is not an issue: IP-based authentication is enough for
a dial-up ISP to permit relaying for its customers.
