Hi all, I am running debian unstable and i have 3 partitions (/usr,/ and /home). Now, my /usr(3gb,reiserfs) is full and i have to expand it .
I have another 3gb ntfs partition which i want to use for linux. I have 2 options to do this. 1) Format the ntfs partition and move and softlink some of the directories in the new partition. 2) Merge the partitions.(is there a way to do this without touching the data?) I intend to do 1,but i am wondering if there are any other solutions. Also, someone has told me that softlinking some directories in /usr is not a good idea. Are there any problems with this.I use many softlinks for /var etc and found no issues. Also, is there a performance hit because of softlinking across partitions? Are there any graphical tools in linux, that will help me do this easily? Else: I plan to do the following things: 1) unmount the windows partion 2) use fdisk to mark the partition as linux ( 83 hex code) 3) use mkreiserfs to format it 4) change /etc/fstab to make change file system type 5) mount it 6) copy the files to the new partitions 7)create softlinks 8) Test by running a few programs and remove duplicated directories. Let me know if i am missing anything.
