Hi Edison:

When importing DXF files into ILWIS or any other GIS, you have to take into
consideration some items:

Never try to mix two kinds of layers in the same file, that is if you are
dealing with lines export and import only lines. In the case of ILWIS, the
system will recognize the layer names as the attribute of the line in question,
i.e. Main_roads, Secundary_roads, Rivers, City_blocks, etc. or 100, 200, 300...
for contours, or even a mixture of everything will work fine as long as you do
not mix lines with points.

I do not know now, but in the past ILWIS, use to "deslike" any DXF version
different from Release 12. So be sure to export to Release 12 of AutoCAD, using
the Options button of the DXFOut command, and export the whole drawing, not just
a selection of items, so the complete HEADER Section of AutoCAD should go with
it. This tip would perhaps sound contradictory with the one above, but it is
not, so be sure to clean your drawing (using the Delete Layer or Save as Block
command) of all the undesired Layers and entities.

Last but not least, do not try to export anything to DXF in other coordinate
system different from UTM or at least Rectangular Flat. Unless you use AutoCAD
Map, a CAD system is not prepared to deal with complex projections, Latitude and
Longitude, Ellipsoids, Datums, etc.

I hope my hints could help you...

Best regards,

Reinaldo
