I've heard of people losing their computer monitors because they put books
or papers on top that prevented proper cooling. So it's a good idea to
make sure that you have nothing on top of the computer (like a cat) and do
not have things piled around the sides, blocking the airflow.
The consensus here seems to be that the later model iMacs get pretty
hot. You might try going to a CompUSA or other computer store where they
sell them and leave their display models on all day. See if the store
models get as hot as your own.
