I've occasionally had trouble booting from a CD (notably from my Mac OS and 
Norton Utilities CD); but I've found it's usually a matter of TIMING.  When I 
insert the CD and then restart, I have to wait until that few seconds BETWEEN 
power-up and the Happy Mac BEFORE I hit my CD command [COMMAND+C]... If I'm a 
split-second too early or too late with the CD command, my internal system 
takes the startup.  When I hit it just right, the CD takes startup.
