IE and OE are free, but how much did you pay for Office? Have you
compared the cost of Appleworks (bundled free) and say WordPerfect3.5
(free) with the cost of MS Office? And how many of the features on your
paid version of Office which you use regularly are not available on AW
or WP. Certainly if you are a power user of word processing,
spreadsheets and presentations Office may be a wise investment.
Have you looked at the amount of RAM that each of these app's require?
(on MacOS9.1 the programmers' suggested memory allocations are: Word
9Mb, Excel 6Mb, PowerPoint 10.2Mb, Appleworks5 4.6Mb, Corel WordPerfect 9Mb)
And have you considered the potential cost/damage that macroviruses may have?
These are just a couple of other things to consider when alternatives to
Office are discussed.
