Tray loaders use SO-DIMMs, whereas slot loaders use regular DIMMs. 
SO-DIMMs are mostly known for their use in PowerBooks and are about 
1/4 the length of normal DIMMs.

Traditionally, SO-DIMMs are more expensive.... but with the RAM 
market in the shape it's in right now, there's little price 
difference (if any) except when you compare larger chips (like say, 
512MB chips).
