Hi everyone, I have suddenly lost the start-up chimes on my computer, together with the remote access sounds when connecting to my ISP, plus there are no sounds in PowerMail when sending mail or any sounds with any alerts.
There seems to be no other problems when booting, such as flashing question mark and I am able to use my applications (PowerMail, Clarisworks 5, Netscape Navigator etc. ok. The only things I have noticed are 1...the menu bar occasionally gives a flicker, irrespective of what application I am using, although it does not seem to affect anything as far as I can see. 2...I find that applications will suddenly quit, usually when trying to open them. I get the notice about the application quitting and to save my work in other applications and restart the computer, which I do, usually without trouble. Although on these restarts, I do get the flashing question mark. I am not being inconvenienced by this fault at present but something is obviously wrong and I would like to get on top of it before it goes too far. I have rebuilt the desktop and checked the HD with DFA and Norton and both show nothing wrong. I am unable to Zap the PRAM because I cannot hear any chimes on my machine. Any ideas would be welcome.
