The dim colors are a result of improper CMYK conversion.  The monitor thinks 
colors as RGB (red, green, blue) and the printer prints as CMYK (cyan, 
magneta, yellow, black).  Some colors on the RGB scale are not reproducable 
on CMYK.  The computer usually converts it from RGB to CMYK is the app 
that's printing does not do it, giving you the sub-standard colors.  To get 
good colors requires a great deal of knowledge with Photoshop and its CMYK 
converting/printing tools.
