Eudora and OE are fine under both 9 and X, even encouraged.
I've used both, but prefer Eudora. Localnet even gives the usual
4 or 5 extra mailboxes, and I've accessed them with personalities
without incident. Connections are standard PPP and I get 56K.

The routine mail server works in the same way as I've seen anywhere.
Webmail (web-based email) is the only thing that doesn't work
as I'd expect. If I decide to check my email on a trip home or at a
coffeeshop,
there might be fifty or more inbound messages. I might be interested
in only one.
The other 49 also get added to the webmail message server and are removed
from the mail server, so I can't download any of the 50, unless I do
it one message at a time.
This happens to all the messages inbound at that time, even to messages
that I don't view at all. As a result, I end up not using localnet's
webmail at all.

I asked about it, and I guess there was a problem they had with
people that like webmail kept too much mail on the server,
unlike all us well-behaved Eudora users. While their choice
doesn't affect me day to day, it is a pain when I'm at the parents'.
