Minidiscs are a format that was created by Sony about ten years ago. They aren't widely accepted, but they do have a small corner devoted to them at Best Buy. The format is slowly getting cheaper though. There are also commercially availible Minidisc burners now. However, I don't personally think that Minidiscs will ever catch on, I only ever know one person that has a player, and that was because they were a semi-wealthy family.
