Make sure you get a "crossover" cable, not a regular network "patch" cable
to wire the computers together. I connected my iMac when I got it with my
older mac tower with a crossover cable and transferred lots of apps and
files back and forth (mostly forth). I got a long one so I could have the
computers set up in adjoining rooms, but with a laptop a short one should be
all you need. Enable file sharing on both so you can go both ways. Firewire
may be faster but the network cable is quite fast. Not as nice as airport
but very cheap to do.
