A strange thing happened yesterday. When I tried to connect, my modem
dialed out, started to do its handshake dance, and then quit with an
error message that the modem was not responding correctly. Thessage
said to 1. Reset the modem, 2. Check the Modem Control Panel and make
sure that the correct settings were entered.

I was able to check the CP and the settings WERE correct, however I
could not find any way to "reset" the modem. I finally just shutdown
my iMac; after a restart, the modem worked fine. This leads to a few
questions:

1. How do you reset an iMac modem?

2. Is this message an indication that the modem is going bad?

3. Since Apple doesn't allow any other internal modem to be
installed, should I buy an external modem to have on hand?

4. What about using my GV Teleport 56k modem with a USB-serial adapter?

TIA

Dennis
