By jove, it works! Cost was C$46.04 including the taxes.

For general information Cicero is an importer based in Burnaby, British
Columbia V5J 5K3, 
product was manufactured in Taiwan. Ironcially Burnaby is also the home
of Future Shop Canada. Connection maybe?

In any event this particular powered hub does work, even the printeri s
plugged into the hub and it works. 
Now to find out ifthe lamp in the scanner is supposed to be "on" all the
time...
