Got a new G4 iMac (and I like it very much, thank you). I would like to "network" it to my old LC475 in order to transfer all my old stuff (a couple of GB's) to my new iMac. Considering the amount of data I want to transfer I think (please, correct me if I am wrong) the easiest & cheapest way to do this would be via an Ethernet link between the old LC and the new iMac. A network card for the old LC will set me back less than $10 (via eBay). Now a couple of questions: 1) I am now using a dial-up [internet access] account on the iMac that I do NOT want to disrupt, how do I enable the Ethernet link without messing up the current dial up settings? 2) Can I just use a "crossover" Ethernet cable or will I need a mini-hub? 3) Would I be better offer running System 9.2.2 on the iMac (instead of OS X) for this set-up? 4) Could I use the same set-up to provide regular access to the a floppy drive and various SCSI devices (Jaz & Zip drives) on the old LC from the my new iMac? Seems like a "cleaner" [and cheaper] solution. I could just make the LC 'pizza box' a stand for the iMac. BTW, I tried one of those USB/SCSI interfaces - basically a POS (sort of works, only with small file transfer, hangs the iMac, etc.). 5) Will the old LC (running 8.1) still need a monitor, keyboard & mouse?
