Hello All--

I am running a home network of 2-iMac 333 MHz (Revision D) and a PPC
8500/180 all with OS 8.6 humming quite happily. Very stable currently. I'm
noticing much of the newer software requires OS 9 as a minimum and possibly
prefers OSX. I'm not ready to plunge into OSX yet but, Is it possible to
install OS 9.x for testing on one iMac and still keep the original OS 8.6
System Folder intact, on that machine, just in case of disaster? Can you
then boot from either OS? The drive is not partitioned so I am assuming
there would be a potential system folder conflict.

If I perform a clean install of OS 9.0 (the CD I have) and then upgrade to
OS 9.x.x, what version should I upgrade to? I would then have to move a
great many extensions to the OS 9 system folder, one at a time, to ensure
compatibility, right?

I am running a home business over this network so excessive downtime is not
an option. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Wally
