Many experienced Mac users advise against "upgrading" to 9.2 if youre not
installing OSX. It has no advantages over 9.1 and has more chance of
problems. 8.6 is good too, not much difference in going to 9.1. However, my
daughter who has custody of "my" iMac says it was crashing almost daily
until I ran DiskWarrior, optimized the hard drive, and upgraded from 8.6 to
9.1 which I did the same day. She reports it rarely crashes now, but we dont
know which one made the difference. She runs iTunes and Limewire a lot on
it. I wouldnt really advise going from 8.6 to 9.1 unless youre having
problems you think are OS-related, or can get a disk cheap, or need it for a
specific application. OS 9 uses more memory than 8.6 so make sure you have
enough if you do it (at least 96 mb). It's easy to do- just put in the disk,
boot up from it, (hold down "c" key on startup or restart) and click on
"install". You might want to optimize (de-fragment) your hard drive 1st if
you havent done it for awhile, but that's optional.
