I would not suggest upgrading in this way. The System Folder on the disk is incomplete, stripped down, and the versions of some files (specifically the System suitcase itself, whatever Energy Saver module are present, the Mac OS ROM file, well, the list goes on) have been modified to optimize for use when booting to the CD. Some of these, when present in a working, hard drive System Folder, will render system bomb on boot with a message to the affect of "This System cannot boot your computer because it was intended for the original media it was installed on.
