I try not to refer to them as rev a through whatever, but rather to what 
kind of drive they have. There's a lot of debate as to whether certain 
models constitute a separate revision identifier, etc... so I just use 
Apple's identifiers....

The slot-loading iMacs are completely different. Not all have the VGA 
connector; only the DV models have it. The tray-loaders have separate 
power supply and analog/video assemblies. The slot-loaders have a single 
power/analog/video assembly.
