>Would anyone be offended if I used the discs from my overpriced G4 >dual 1gig to upgrade the iMac's OS? I figure Apple owes me, after >ripping me off on my $500 rebate. (don't ask). > >PC >-- Uhm, I use my OS 8.1 or 8.5 or 9.1 disks all over the place. They are all original copies of the OS. I dunno how to solve that pickle. If the CD is one of those original disks that came with a specific model and is labeled as such, I am not sure that you can boot it on any old machine. I used to get by with an iMac's 8.1 installer on a bunch of 5200s by booting from a zip or Syquest with CD support, and then locating the System Software installers cuz either the disk will not boot because of a mach id conflict or the installer script will not run because it's the "wrong" Mac.
