In the beginning, QuickTime was free, and the basic MoviePlayer program
allowed you to do nice things, like edit and save movies, and play them full
screen.

With QuickTime 3, Apple took the ability to edit and save movies and play
them full screen out of the free version of MoviePlayer, and started
charging for QuickTime Pro, which was basically the free version with the
ability to edit and save and play full screen.

Recently, certain movies that you find on the web, such as movie trailers
come in two or more versions: The "okay" version, that you could see for
free with the normal QuickTime player, and the "best" version, that only
QuickTime Pro owners could see.

I don't know of any way to see the "best" version movies for free, but there
are workarounds for the other issues.

To prevent the ads from popping up, first set your computer's clock a year
or two into the future, then click the "later" button in the QuickTime Pro
ad, then set your clock back to the real date. QuickTime won't ask you to
register again until whatever year you set your clock ahead to.

To get the ability to edit, save, and play movies full screen, find a copy
of MoviePlayer 2.5, the last version before QuickTime Pro was introduced.
Don't install QuickTime 2.5, just use the MoviePlayer program that came with
it with the newest version of QuickTime. I'm using MoviePlayer 2.5 with
QuickTime 6, and it works fine.
