Perhaps not forever, but for a reasonable period of time.

For the record, I'm with you as far as the Pro keys for QuickTime are
concerned. I see no reason why the keys should be good for any more
than one "whole number" version, though I think maybe a discount for
anyone who has one for a previous version would be nice.

However, I STRONGLY disagree with Apple's decision to charge full
upgrade price for Jaguar OS X to anyone who bought a Macintosh prior to
July 17th. That's just too late a cutoff point. That means that
everyone like myself who bought the new Flat Panel iMacs which, as a
MODEL, are less than six months old, need to pay full upgrade price.

For a machine and model less than six months old, this just doesn't seem
fair to me. I mean, for all intents and purposes, I just BOUGHT this
thing, and now Apple is telling me I have to shell out $195.00 Canadian
to keep it up to date?!

If I still had my old Revision B Bondi Blue iMac, I'd have no problem
paying for the upgrade. Hell, if I had bought this computer back in
December or January, I'd have no problem with it. But I only bought it
in April. Only four months, and already I'd have to shell out $195.00
to stay up to date.

That sounds more like Microsoft than Apple IMHO.

I don't expect a free ride forever... but I just don't think it's fair
to expect people whose computers are virtually brand new to pay full
price for an OS upgrade like this. At LEAST they should offer a
discount... :/

BTW, before several people chide me and say I should contact Apple
directly about this, just so you know, I have. Through E-mail AND by
phone. I wanted my displeasure displayed loud and clear.

I wonder how many others did the same...?
