Not specifically, however, there is a big difference in how Carbon and Cocoa programs 
print, and
printing from classic is not one of OS X's shining moments.  If you want to see the 
difference just
print a simple document from a Carbon program like Apple Works and the same thing from 
a Cocoa
program like Text edit.

The latest versions of X come with hordes of print drivers pre-installed. You have to 
use terminal
to do it, but you can delete all the ones you aren't using if you wish.

Your printing weirdness would be a good reason to run fsck -y from console and let it 
check all
your discs for any corruption?
