DW in it's currently available version itself needs to be the startup volume in order to work properly. It can't repair anything on it's own volume. In absence of DW on separate media (burn your own CD, Zip disk, external HD or floppy startup volume), one other option would be to have DW on a separate partition and select that as the startup volume in order to repair and maintain the other partition/volume(s).
