Joel,
I am brand spanking new to the Mac experience and decided after much
consultation with my mac junkie brother-in-law to go for broke. I
purchased an 800 MHz G4, 17 inch Flat screen with 1 Meg of RAM. How it
compares to the emac, I couldn't tell you. As far as being silent.
The only noise I ever here is when the Superdrive fires up to read a
disc. My external Hard Drive makes much more noise than the Imac.
As for the monitor withstanding teenage "normal wear and tear" I also
have one of those beings. The great thing about this monitor, in
addition to its cool looks, is the 2 inch wide glass frame surrounding
the more delicate LCD. That border is a great handle. And, it cleans
really easily.
Having had no experience with any previous OS, I only know OS X 10.2
and am having a time finding an all in one office machine to work with
it. HP tells me "by the end of Sept." new drivers should be out...
Other wise, the applications that come with Jaguar are really easy to
use and have so far met all of my needs.
