I shop on price, for the most part. Despite the broad range of RAM brand names, there's really only a small number of RAM manufacturers, and these days none are really any better than the others. The more important factor is the dealer you buy from (as opposed to the brand of the RAM). Some RAM dealers are great, some stink. I buy from Coast to Coast, personally. Lots of people (including, it seems, most people on this list) swear by OWC. > Also, I gather that I must replace the original 256 mem with a 512 > card in > order to reach the max 1 gig, but removing the original card is > supposed to > be done only by the dealer. Is that correct? Anyone had experience > replacing > the original RAM? The original RAM is "Authorized Technicians Only." Being an authorized tech, I've upgraded these a number of times. It's not too difficult, but I wouldn't necessarily suggest doing it unless you're very comfortable with your ability to do it. The screws holding the bottom housing in MUST be tightened to 17in-lbs and you need to reapply thermal paste to a plate in there. -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
