Do your icons flicker like they are being rapidly selected?

A friend of mine has an iMac DV400 that was doing similar to what you state
is happening to you. Icons were flickering, very hard if not impossible to
open anything and so on. This problem did not always show up and was very
random in nature until it kept getting worse. In our case it ended up being
a combination of two problems. One was an added joystick to the USB port
and the other ended up being a sticky key on the keyboard. The key was the
hardest part to find as it was just barely engaged. I can't remember which
key it was though, sorry. A good cleaning seemed to take care of it though.
The joystick needed to be cleaned also and recalibrated. Unplugging the USB
items one at a time help us to narrow it down.

Hope this helps you out some,

Ken
