Now, on to your question: unfortunately, to give you a good-quality answer we would need more information, such as what model of Mac you have. Some Macs have built-in mics (you don't want to use that for this purpose, however) and some don't -- or even any regular way to connect a mic! However, all Macs *can* record sound either with the tools built-in or with the help of an iMic.
