You're right, in that the little Iomega CD650 4x4x6 USB CD-RW works well with the iMac. It's really inexpensive and it produces decent CD's. Just slower than pouring cold molasses. Actually the quickest USB, CD-RW I've found, is OWC's Mercury Pro 40x12x48 unit with both USB and Firewire capabilities. On my daughter's slot load, G3/350 iMac she burns audio CD's at 10x with it, using USB, with excellent results. Using Toast Titanium 5.2 it will burn data over USB at 16x. With both Firewire and USB it's a really flexible unit. It gets used a lot around here on several Mac's and clones. Just my experience.
