Moving to being a bottom feeder...er, bottom poster... I don't know if your problem has yet been resolved. If not, I suggest that you take a look at Apple KnowledgBase Article #'s 106712, 106 214, as well as 106464. You can find these by searching the KnowledgeBase for each article number. These articles discuss various OS X start-up problems, permissions problems, and using the Disk Utility on the install CD to correct these problems. I don't recall if it is in one of these particular articles, but I recall reading that the problem of not seeing an HD, or a partition, is often due in OS X to having permissions set incorrectly, even when running in OS 9. These are certainly worth investigating. Please post back to the list if/when you resolve this problem, as I would very much like to know the solution.
